12 October 2019 has been declared by the Convention for Migratory Species WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY (WMBD) 2019
WMBD was launched on 9 April 2006 in Laikipia Nature Conservancy with an international musical event in Ol Ari Nyiro, Laikipia Nature Conservancy situated on the flyways of the spectacular Great Rift views.
It was organized by Kuki and Sveva Gallmann in partnership with the United Nation Environment Programme the Convention for Migratory Species and the African – Eurasian Waterbirds agreement.

The performance by artists flown in from countries all over the world situated along the fly routes with original music and choreography was attended by world renown conservationists from Kenya and around the world and local personalities and public. School children produced poems and dances.
Ol Ari Nyiro is designated by Birdife International and Nature Kenya as an Important Bird Area (IBA 064) renowned for its variety of avifauna, sustained by its diverse ecosystems vegetation and insect life.
