Elephant Incident operation interim report
A young male elephant -part of a large herd- in the Centre Dam area of LNC limping, with a very swollen front right leg was reported to me, early AM by LNC OP Manager Mark Laurence and I communicated by return with relevant at KWS.
The KWS responded immediately with Vet. Dr. Mathew Murinda putting me in touch with Vet. Dr. Rono who was in Meru.
A fixed wing plane was dispatched with captain pilot Harry Dyer and two vets on board, Dr. Rono assisted by Dr. Wambugu. The elephant was located by LNC / KWS / Sheldrick Plane team in very thick bush at GPS N 00 28.775′ E 036 15.498′.
A chopper from Ol Malo with Andrew Francombe was called in and the elephant darted and successfully treated.
The injury was seemingly caused by a spear.
I shall revert later on any finding on this.*
I wish in meantime to thank all involved in the operation and in particular:
The Sheldrick Trust, and their exceptional team and in particular the Pilots Harry Dyer and Andrew Francombe
and the two vets.
I shall write a complete report with photo through other medium

* The elephant was helped with water drums in his area.
One day later he joined his herd and seems so far fine.
